Former trader and investor Nawaz Lakhani was traveling through South America in January 2022 when he befriended a life coach and adventure traveler in Machu Picchu. He was on his way to Chile, where he was about to join the Maverick Experience, an “impact expedition”, and invited Nawaz to join. Taking the encounter as a sign, Nawaz signed up for the trip in support of Ocean Unite’s 30×30 initiative to conserve 30% of the World’s Ocean by 30×30 with a focus on the preservation of Antarctica.
“This is not an experience that you can have through words and photos and other people’s stories. As great as they are, trying to explain to somebody what twenty-three hours of daylight feels like when you’re there is just a completely unexplainable phenomenon.”
